The Crop tool is non-destructive and you can choose to retain the cropped pixels to optimize the crop boundaries later. We used to be able to use crop to selection directly after selecting an area with the selection tool. Ive read that it most likely has to do with my graphics card and that I could fix that through the Radeon Graphic Card program for my specific card but once in the program theres no option to do so.
